
December 12 & 13, 2009 – Jingle on the James & Parade of Lights
The Rocketts riverfront came alive with seasonal spirit for the first annual Jingle on the James on this beautiful winter weekend. Over 100 artists displayed fine arts and crafts for sale throughout our neighborhood while choirs and bell choirs performed lively holiday music. The weekend’s signature event, the Parade of Lights, set the water aglow with the lighted boat parade while dancers performed with illuminated hula hoops on the riverbank. The event proved to be both joyful and triumphant.
October 17, 2009 – Run to the River 10K Hill Run, 5K Walk and 1K Fun Run
More than 250 runners, walkers and volunteers turned out on this chilly October morning for the 2nd Annual Rocketts Landing Run to the River benefiting the Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC) of Fulton Hill. Both the 10K and 5K courses took participants over challenging hills, through charming neighborhoods and even along the Rocketts riverfront. All celebrated with warm food, drinks and live music at the award ceremony held in the NRC’s community garden. The event raised $30,000 for the NRC, a grassroots, non-profit organization that offers quality programs and resources to families with limited means living in Richmond’s East End. October 2, 2009 – Landscapes in a Truck Photography Exhibit
In one of the first US showings of his work, Richmond-based artist Shaun Irving displayed remarkable photographs taken with his Cameratruck. Having converted a large truck into a simple lightbox camera, Irving captured Spanish landscapes on canvas-sized photographic paper, allowing the development process to become part of the final artwork. This one night only exhibit in 210 Rock gave residents, visitors and special guests a chance to meet the artist, enjoy music and refreshments and even take home a piece of Irving’s art. May 17, 2009 – Rocketts Landing Triathlon
For this inaugural Richmond Multisports event, nearly 200 triathletes arrived at Rocketts’ riverbank to face a challenging course over land and water. Yet no one expected the sky to become the day’s biggest obstacle. Severe weather rendered the James too choppy for swimming, with even the few brave elite athletes requiring assistance back to shore. The rain, however, couldn’t put a damper on the biking and running portion of the day. The course weaved through the nearby Henrico countryside, downtown Richmond and back to the finish line at Rocketts Landing where food, refreshments, live music and the award ceremony awaited inside 210 Rock. May 16, 2009 – 6th Annual Rocketts Landing Sprints Regatta
This annual event of the Virginia Boat Club was part of Richmond’s inaugural Dominion Riverrock festival this year, attracting athletes of all ages to Rocketts’ riverbank. Area boat clubs and high school teams competed in 1000 meter sprints on the James River with great weather above and swarms of cheering spectators on the bank. Everyone enjoyed barbeque, cool drinks and even a few impromptu games of volleyball in Rocketts Landing’s riverside sand volleyball court.
May 9, 2009 – 2nd Annual Cap2Cap Bike Ride
In its first year beginning at Rocketts Landing, this 25, 50 or 100 mile bike ride lead nearly 1500 cyclists for a scenic trip between Richmond and Williamsburg. Participants and volunteers enjoyed perfect spring weather, making it easy to relish in post-ride festivities like BBQ, beer and live music. Proceeds benefit the Virginia Capital Trail, a 50-mile multi-use path that will connect Virginia’s historic and current capital cities. May 2, 2009 –Richmond Ballet 16th Annual Derby Day Party at Rocketts Landing
For the fourth consecutive year, Rocketts Landing played host to this annual Kentucky Derby party benefiting the Richmond Ballet. Guests traded trackside for riverside and donned their big hats and bow ties for this lively event which featured mint juleps, live music, dancing, raffles, races and even a rainbow at sunset. March 29, 2009 – Rocketts Landing Collegiate Regatta
The inaugural year of this regatta co-sponsored by the VCU Crew team and the Virginia Boat Club kicked off with quite a splash. The VCU team challenged teams from the University of Richmond, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Duke, George Mason and NC State in races along Rocketts waterfront. The student athletes and spectators enjoyed some unexpected excitement thanks to high winds and unusually choppy waters. The conditions required that the event conclude earlier than planned, but certainly left all participants with some good stories and fun memories as they prepare for next year.
March 28, 2009 – Downtown Loft Tour
Venture Richmond’s annual tour of downtown Richmond’s most dynamic homes guided visitors through 15 residences, including three at Rocketts Landing. These Rocketts residents welcomed bus loads of people into their homes to get a glimpse of what life is like on the river and just minutes from downtown. The tour included a top floor riverfront condominium at Sky Line, a stunning penthouse with rooftop deck at 210 Rock, and a 2-story condo in Cedar Works that is home to Rocketts Landing’s developer, Jason Vickers-Smith.
December 13, 2008 – 2nd Annual Parade of Lights Party
Celebrating the holidays on the riverbank is quickly becoming a new favorite tradition amongst residents, friends and special guests. For the second year in a row, Rocketts Landing celebrated the Parade of Lights, Richmond’s beloved parade of decorated boats down the James River, with holiday festivities of its very own. This year, 400 partygoers gathered in the Power Plant building – soon to be home to Rocketts’ first riverfront restaurant, The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing – to watch the parade while enjoying food, cocktails, live holiday music and dancing.
October 26, 2008 – Townhome Grand Opening Party
Rocketts Landing was abuzz with activity on this sunny, autumn afternoon: from groups of friends chatting over wine and hors d’oeuvres to curious partygoers touring the newly completed Cedar Works Row of luxury townhomes. The tour led visitors through the meticulously manicured courtyard, flanked by the historic Cedar Works building and a stunning row of eight townhomes, each uniquely designed to reflect classic Richmond architecture. The tour continued into one model townhome, which featured 3,000 square feet of beautiful living space, including the well-appointed kitchen, balconied master bedroom and the stunning rooftop deck. Plus, attendees were treated to the announcement of and details surrounding Rocketts Landing’s first waterfront townhomes: Riverbank Terraces.
October 18, 2008 – Run to the River 10K & 5K Walk
Approximately 70 runners, walkers and "fundrunners" turned out for the inaugural Rocketts Landing Run to the River 10K Hill Run and 5K Walk benefiting the Neighborhood Resource Center. More than 40 dedicated volunteers braved the chilly morning and pointed the way as runners sprinted over hills and down cobblestone streets. "It was the most challenging 10K I've ever run," said Peter Lurie, the first-place winner and an East End resident. Runners, walkers and volunteers celebrated at the Neighborhood Resource Center with complimentary food from Ellwood Thompson's Local Market, free massages and alternative health consultations, and enjoyed live music by Hotel X. June 7, 2008 – The Grand Opening of 210 Rock
It’s official: Richmond’s most contemporary new address is now welcoming residents. Rocketts Landing celebrated the Grand Opening of 210 Rock with a stylish party, complete with tours of this trend-setting building and two furnished model units. After party-goers soaked in the open floor plans, floor-to-ceiling windows, and great views the festivities continued on the main floor in a future retail space. There they cooled down with cold drinks, filled up on delicious food and rocked out to great live music.
May 3, 2008 - Richmond Ballet 15th Annual Derby Day Party at Rocketts Landing
On this sunny spring afternoon, Rocketts Landing played host to its third Kentucky Derby party benefiting the Richmond Ballet. Held right on the riverbank, the event was filled with live music, dancing, Southern style cuisine, and fashion worthy of Churchill Downs. While all watched Big Brown race his way to victory, it was truly the Ballet who was the day's big winner.
December 8, 2007 – Parade of Lights Celebration
Even with the unseasonably mild weather, there was no shortage of holiday spirit at Rocketts Landing’s First Parade of Lights Celebration. The evening kicked off with guests enjoying a fleet of spectacularly decorated boats parading down the James while the city skyline glowed in the background. Following this cherished Richmond tradition, the lively group continued to celebrate the season with drinks, food and live holiday music on the riverbank. Each guest also received a crystal ornament to commemorate Rocketts’ first holiday. After all, ‘tis the season for giving.
September 29, 2007 – 210 Rock Preview Party
Urbanites united on this clear fall day to get their first look at 210 Rock, Rocketts Landing’s newest, most contemporary building. As guests arrived, they were guided up five floors to check out the variety of lofts, flats, and penthouses currently under construction. After taking in the incredible views of the neighborhood, James River and Richmond skyline, partygoers made their way to a future retail space on the ground floor for drinks, food and, of course, rock music.
May 25, 2007 – 400th Anniversary Celebration and Obelisk Unveiling
Rocketts Landing celebrated its four centuries of history in a monumental way on a beautiful afternoon, nearly 400 years to the day after Christopher Newport first landed there. Capt. Newport himself helped unveil a 20 foot granite obelisk that stands in the heart of Rocketts Landing. The celebration then continued into the evening with live music, food and cocktails on the riverbank, overlooking the historic tall ships and Richmond skyline.
May 5, 2007 – Richmond Ballet 14th Annual Derby Day Party at Rocketts Landing
Rain couldn’t stop the 14th Annual Kentucky Derby party benefiting the Richmond Ballet from being another tremendous success. Under the shelter of a historic, riverside building at Rocketts Landing, partygoers enjoyed great food, mint juleps, live music and all the racing action on a big screen. Everyone was thrilled to celebrate such a good cause, in such a beautiful and lively setting.
