Run to the River - Oct. 22nd, 2011
This year’s Rocketts Landing Run to the River was held on a beautiful October Saturday morning. Participants of all ages were challenged by their choice of either a 10k hill run through several of Richmond’s historic neighborhoods or a 5k walk through Montrose Heights, Gillies Creek Park and along the river through Rocketts Landing. The annual event proved to be a great success once again, earning between $25,000 and $30,000 for the non-profit Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC). Rocketts Triathlon
July 23rd, 2011 marked the 3rd annual Rocketts Landing Triathlon, organized by Richmond Multisports. This year’s event proved to be one of the most exciting yet and the first time the Rocketts Landing Triathlon has been featured as the 2011 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region Club Championship. Hundreds of participants battled their way through a daunting Olympic distance triathlon course consisting of a 1.5k swim in the James River, a 40k bike ride in the country side and a 10k run through historic downtown Richmond. Dragon Boat Festival
On July 30th, 2011 Rocketts Landing hosted the 2nd annual WhatIfCreditUnions.com Dragon Boat Festival, organized by Sportsbackers. Over 3,000 spectators gazed upon the open waters of the beautiful James River to watch teams race along the river in 40-foot canoes decorated with ornate Chinese dragon heads. Each boat was crewed by 20 synchronized paddlers led by the rhythmic beat of a drum. This year’s event even featured our very own Rocketts Landing team! Sprints Regatta - June 25, 2011
On June 25th, the 8th Annual Virginia Boat Club Sprints Regatta took place at Rocketts Landing. Under perfect sun-filled skies, nearly 200 spectators lined the banks of the James River to watch boat clubs from across the region compete in the annual regatta. Onlookers were captivated by the powerful rowers as they battled one another, cutting through the mighty James River. In addition to the fierce competition, spectators enjoyed the delicious food and good times that are consistently delivered by this special event. Richmond Ballet Derby Party - May 7th, 2011
This year’s Richmond Ballet Kentucky Derby Day Party went off in traditional fine fashion. Women, in their beautiful summer dresses, were courted by equally adorned men in fanciful bowties and summer time suits. The reception grew with a subtle energized hum, as party goers waited for the suspenseful Running of the Roses which came and went with a roar from the crowd. Soon after, the dance floor was in full swing as the derby debutantes danced the night away, proving once again that Rocketts Landing and the Richmond Ballet play host to the grandest Derby day party in all of Richmond.
Cap2Cap Bike Ride - May 7th, 2011
Early Saturday morning riders began shuffling into the Rocketts Landing staging area. The quiet streets slowly turned into a symphony of clicking gears and excited chatter, while the sun glittered off the facade of the Rocketts Sky Line luxury homes. In an instant the riders were off and spinning. Later, as riders began to trickle through the Rocketts finish line, they were greeted to great live music and delicious food. This year’s Cap2Cap was an invigorating event filling all who attended with a sense of pride in supporting the worthwhile efforts of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation.
Catwalk for Kids - April 15th, 2011
Through amazing displays of fashion and entertainment the non-profit organization, Catwalk for Kids, spreads hope and healing to children in need. Founded by renowned red carpet designer, Mary Norton, Catwalk for Kids provides a powerful experience for children nationwide, from the charitable fashion show to the designing of handbags with the children themselves. On April 8, 2011 Rocketts Landing provided the perfect setting for the Richmond Catwalk for Kids charity event. This special event proved to be a most memorable occasion benefiting so many children in need, in Richmond and beyond.
Rocketts Landing Run to the River Race – October 16, 2010
The Rocketts Landing Run to the River is a challenging 10K run presented by Rocketts Landing each year in the fall. This past October 16, runners tackled three hills as they dash over cobblestone streets, through historic neighborhoods, and along the banks of the James River. Participants received a complementary t-shirt and ticket to the finish-line party, where they enjoyed live music, refreshments, and an alternative health fair. All proceeds benefited the Neighborhood Resource Center.
July 31 - WhatIfCreditUnions.com Dragon Boat Festival
This one-of-a-kind athletic event landed at Rocketts Landing for its inaugural year in Richmond. The festival consisted of 40-foot canoes decorated with ornate Chinese dragon heads gliding along the James River. Social and business groups of all kinds participated in the competition with at least one thing in common… they all had a blast!
July 25 - 2nd Annual Rocketts Landing Triathlon
In its second year, Richmond Multisports returned to Rocketts Landing with a 1.5k swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run. The course took athletes into the James, out into the countryside and back through downtown Richmond before ending with a post-race party on the riverfront.
June 12 – The 7th Annual Rocketts Landing Sprints Regatta
The Virginia Boat Club kicked off the season on the James with a day of 1000 meter sprints on the Rocketts Landing waterfront. Area boat clubs competed with great weather above and a swarm of cheering spectators on the bank.
May 8 – 3rd Annual Cap2Cap Bike Ride
This event of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation sent over 1,600 cyclists peddling 25-, 50- and 100-mile routes between Williamsburg and Richmond, where Rocketts played host to the festivities for a third year. As in previous years, the ride benefited the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation as they work toward completing the paved path to connect Virginia’s past and current Capital cities.
May 1 - Richmond Ballet 17th Annual Derby Day Party
Rocketts Landing played host to the Richmond Ballet’s annual Kentucky Derby Day Party for the fifth consecutive year. A festively-dressed crowd of over 350 watched Super Savor race to victory on a big screen while partying on our riverfront. The event continued with dinner, dancing and a fun evening of support for the Richmond Ballet.
April 10 – 2nd Annual Collegiate Regatta
Virginia Commonwealth University hosted visiting collegiate teams for a second year of races on the Rocketts riverfront. This year competitors from the University of Richmond, William & Mary, George Mason and Liberty University were greeted by clear skies, smooth waters and cheering crowds.
