Rocketts Landing is propelled by the strength of vision and previous successes of William H. Abeloff and The WVS Companies. In January of 2005, The WVS Companies purchased Rocketts Landing from Bill Abeloff—the man who helped renew the Shockoe Bottom area in the 1970s and 1980s, and paved the way for the first Tobacco Row apartments in 1991 – and a group of local investors. The WVS Companies has successfully developed similar communities in Northern Virginia, including Belmont Bay on the Occoquan River. Unlike the many suburban communities being built today, the vision for Rocketts Landing is to revive Richmond's eastern riverfront much like Boston transformed the old-town of Faneuil Hall and Baltimore created a beautiful inner harbor.
